Rodrigo Riquelme, a boost for Atlético de Madrid
Rodrigo Riquelme, winger for Atlético de Madrid, returns to the Spanish national team eleven months after playing 43 games, 17 as a starter, scoring two goals and providing four assists in his journey with the rojiblanco club with Diego Simeone.
The absence of Lamine Yamal due to overload has reopened the door of Luis de la Fuente’s list to the 24-year-old Madrid player. Riquelme started the previous season with Atlético with two goals and an assist, he was a starter in six of the 16 games the Madrid team had played until then.
He now bursts back into the Spanish national team, replacing Laminel Yamal, who has an overload and is out for the match against Serbia next Tuesday at the Nuevo Arcángel stadium in Córdoba. In the current season, Atlético has already played eleven games, Riquelme has only been a starter in three. His last starting game for Atlético was on September 19, 2024 against Leipzig.
