Kofane: Is the African Talent Getting Away?
Atlético de Madrid showed interest in October for the young Cameroonian forward Kofane, 18, who dazzled at Albacete, scoring eight crucial goals in the Second Division and helping to secure the team’s permanence. His rapid rise attracted the attention of several major European clubs.
The player’s release clause is only five million euros, a figure that Albacete refuses to negotiate. Despite initial interest, Atlético appears to have lost ground in the race for Kofane. The club has not taken the step of paying the clause, unlike other teams.
This could mean that the promising forward’s future lies outside of Spain, with clubs such as Monaco, Bayer Leverkusen, or Manchester United leading the bidding. Albacete, meanwhile, prefers to keep Kofane in their ranks for another season.
Their ideal plan would be to sell him for the value of his clause and then loan him back to the Manchego club so that he can continue his development in a familiar environment. However, unless there is an unexpected change, it seems that Atlético will not be Kofane’s final destination.
