Antiviolence commission proposes severe sanctions for Atlético de Madrid

2024-10-15 Diario As

The Antiviolence Commission has proposed a complete closure of the Metropolitano stadium for fifteen days and a fine of 65,000 euros for Atlético de Madrid following incidents in the Madrid derby.

Several members of the Frente Atlético threw lighters at Thibaut Courtois, which stopped the game for several minutes. The Commission considered the incident ‘very serious’ and hopes that the sanctions will mark ‘a before and after’ in all of Spanish sport.

Atlético de Madrid has already expelled four members involved in the throwing of objects and expects more expulsions from the club, as well as the prohibition of their stadium. The club has already been sanctioned with a fine of 45,000 euros and with the partial closure of the lower south end of the Metropolitano stadium, from where objects were thrown towards the white team’s white goalkeeper. This sanction will be applied to the next three home games that Atlético de Madrid plays.
