Late justice for Nancy ultras in the 2018 Europa League final

2024-10-16 Mundo Deportivo

After more than six years of waiting, four Nancy ultra fans have been convicted of assaulting two Marseille fans in a bar during the Europa League final between Olympique and Atlético de Madrid in Lyon.

The events date back to May 16, 2018, when these four young men attacked two Olympique de Marseille fans who were watching the Europa League final between Marseille and Atlético de Madrid. The scene was recorded by security cameras.

The four men, aged between 26 and 32, were tried for ‘aggravated voluntary violence’, which resulted in hospitalization of more than eight days for one of the two victims. They were sentenced to 16 months in prison, including six months of firm prison for one, and 10, 12 and 14 months of conditional prison for the other three.

That final was resolved in an unbeatable way for Atlético de Madrid, who won 3-0 and took the title against the French. It should be remembered that not all the fans who would have liked to go to Lyon went, as it was hinted from the Gallic country that there would be a real invasion of Marseille ultras, who still had unfinished business with the mattress club due to incidents that had occurred in the Calderón at the end of the 2000s.
