Atlético Fan Clubs denounce 'double standard' in Antiviolence sanction

2024-10-16 Mundo Deportivo

The International Union of Atlético de Madrid Fan Clubs has issued a statement denouncing the ‘disproportionate and unfair’ Antiviolence sanction of closing the Atlético stadium for fifteen days and fining the club 65,000 euros for the incidents of the derby on September 29 against Real Madrid.

The group recalls that the Competition Committee of the RFEF had already sanctioned the events with a partial closure of the Metropolitano for three games, a sanction appealed by the club.

In addition, the organization that brings together most of the Atlético fan clubs recalls cases such as the object that hit a referee in the Espanyol field; the ambush that Atlético itself suffered in the Copa del Rey on its arrival at Anoeta two seasons ago with a shower of objects, breaking the windows of the bus and danger for the Atlético expedition; or the lighter that Courtois himself suffered, as an Atlético player, in the Santiago Bernabéu at the hands of the Real Madrid fans. The Union denounces that ’the sanction arbitrarily punishes a whole group for the actions of a few individuals’ and that ‘it is unacceptable to apply the sanctioning regulations with extreme harshness when it comes to Atlético, while turning a blind eye in the case of other teams’.
