Atlético Madrid reduces punishment to one match
Atlético Madrid has managed to reduce the sanction imposed by the Competition Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) after the incidents that occurred in the derby against Real Madrid.
Initially, the rojiblanco club had to face the partial closure of the south end of its stadium for three matches, but after filing an appeal, the sanction has been reduced to just one game.
In its appeal, Atlético Madrid argued that the original sanction was ‘disproportionate’ in comparison to the events that occurred in the second half of the match played at the Metropolitano stadium. The sanction would affect part of the lower south stand, sectors 127 to 133, from which the throws were made to the area where Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was.
