“The legend of Robi at Atletico de Madrid”
Atletico de Madrid recalls with emotion Valentín Jorge Sánchez, known as Robi, for his contribution to the season when the team won the 1977 Liga. Robi’s iconic moment was captured when he jumped from the bench at Santiago Bernabéu stadium, after being substituted in the decisive match.
Robi came to UD Salamanca and was part of a legendary team that ascended from 3rd to 1st division in 1972-76, with players like Aguinaga, Juanjo, D’Alessandro, Enrique, Rezza, Ameijenda, and Rial.
He was later transferred to Atletico de Madrid and became a starter in the team that won the Liga in his first season at the club. This Granada-born player was also a Real Madrid academy graduate and was part of the National Olympic team, although he did not make his debut in the A team.
