Atlético Madrid postpones escudo debate till end of season

Atlético Madrid has decided to postpone any discussion about changing its escudo (shield/logo) till the end of the current season. The Atlético fan base has been demanding a referendum to return to the previous escudo, changed in 2017.

The club’s social commission met with the team and decided not to address the issue at this time due to a lack of an appropriate climate for reflection within the different realities of the fan base. The team has committed to preparing a report on the impact of a hypothetical change and presenting it to the social commission at a later date. Other topics were also discussed during the meeting, such as the creation of a space for vintage products in the Metropolitano store and the change in the denomination of the “Paseo de los Jugadores Centenarios” and the criteria for being part of it.

Courtois responds to Atlético Madrid’s apology request

Atlético Madrid’s social committee met to discuss the future of Thibaut Courtois’ plaque in the Paseo de los Jugadores Centenarios del Metropolitano, following statements from the Real Madrid goalkeeper that did not sit well with the colchonera fanbase.

One of the criteria for being part of the walk is “the obligation that all players and former players present maintain a respectful attitude towards the club and its fans.” Atlético sent a letter to the goalkeeper asking for a rectification and apology for those statements and the goalkeeper responded.

The committee members read the Belgian’s response during the meeting, where confidentiality was requested (in this and in other matters) regarding the content. This response did not fully satisfy all attendants, and at the moment, conversations with Courtois are still ongoing to clarify the situation before taking drastic measures such as the removal of his plaque, which some are still calling for.

Atlético Madrid targets Memphis Depay

Atlético Madrid is targeting Memphis Depay, a forward for FC Barcelona, as their primary transfer target for the winter transfer window. Depay, who is out of contract in June, has not been a regular player for Xavi Hernandez this season, having only played in four matches and scored one goal.

The fact that he will be a free agent in June works in Atlético’s favor, as Barcelona is likely to be open to transferring him now in order to receive a transfer fee. Depay had previously not been open to leaving Barcelona mid-season, but the interest from Atlético has changed his plans. He is now open to the idea of playing for Atlético.

The club had previously been interested in Borja Iglesias, but the fact that Joao Felix left on loan rather than being sold led them to change their target and look for a “low cost” forward. Depay has previously played for Sparta, PSV, Manchester United, and Olympique Lyon, and has represented Netherlands on 86 occasions, scoring 43 goals. Atlético is optimistic about signing him in the coming days.

Coach Diego Simeone continues to evaluate his starting lineup for the match with two main doubts in defense and attack. The team is presented with a 4-4-2 formation, with Molina, Marco Moreno, Hermoso and Reguilón in defense, and Llorente, Witsel, Barrios, De Paul, Griezmann, and Correa in attack. Carrasco ruled out for Atlético Madrid’s next match

Belgian footballer Yannick Carrasco, a player for Atlético Madrid, was unable to participate in today’s training due to a muscle strain. According to the club’s medical report, Carrasco is currently undergoing physical therapy and gym sessions.

Recovery from an injury of this type typically ranges between 5 and 10 days, making it unlikely that he will be able to travel with the team to Almería for the next match. This absence of the Belgian player is bad news for coach Simeone, who had been counting on him in recent matches, whether as a winger or in the center of the field. Without Carrasco, Simeone could opt for a 4-4-2 with Reguilón or Reinildo on the wing and De Paul in the center of the field.

Referendum on Atlético Madrid’s Crest on the Agenda

According to a statement released by Atlético, the discussion on the crest will be delayed until the end of the current season to avoid affecting the team’s performance. Once the season ends, the club will present a report on the effects of returning to the old crest on the brand, image, and economy of the club, and the social committee will decide whether to vote in favor of a referendum among all members. Designation of referees for Almeria-Atletico raises VAR suspicions

The Atletico Madrid will be facing Almeria on Sunday December 15th, at the Mediterranean Games stadium. The designation of referees for the match has raised suspicions about VAR, as the referee in charge of the match will be the Murcian José María Sánchez Martínez, who in this season has not had anything noteworthy from a refereeing standpoint in the matches he has led.

However, in the video assistant referee room will be the Catalan David Medié Jiménez, with whom the Atletico Madrid team does not have a good memory, as in a previous match he was in charge of reviewing the images and there was a final play in which there could have been a penalty on an Atletico Madrid player. Additionally, in Alvaro Morata’s debut with the red-and-white team, there was a controversial action in which he fell in the area in a clear action, but the referee did not call for a penalty and from the VAR neither recommended viewing it nor indicating a penalty.

“Atlético Madrid within expected goal statistics”

Atlético Madrid is within their expected goal statistics, with 23 goals in 16 games, averaging 9 shots per goal. Despite this, in their last match against Barcelona, the team created 11 goal opportunities but failed to score. According to advanced statistics from ‘Be Soccer’, this gave them a metric of at least two expected goals.

However, the team failed to beat Barcelona’s goalkeeper at any point, with at least four clear chances ending in frustration and inefficiency. Baptistao targets Atletico Madrid in crucial match

Brazilian forward Leo Baptistao of Almeria sees the upcoming match against his former team, Atletico Madrid, as a crucial one where they must “definitely be more intense from the first minute” than Diego Simeone’s squad. Baptistao stated in a press conference that it will be a “challenge” for them as Atletico Madrid has “great players” and it’s a motivation for them to play.

He also emphasized the importance of maintaining their “well-built idea of football” and trying to play good football against a rival that desperately needs a win after losing against Barcelona. Baptistao also mentioned that it’s always “special” to play against his former team, but the most important thing is to keep the “illusion” because the match is crucial for their survival goal and they broke the home-winning streak against Real Sociedad. He concludes that the match is like a final for them considering the motivation and how they want to win.

Atlético Madrid Earns 50 Million Euros from Cunha Transfer

Atlético Madrid has received the best possible economic news thanks to the transfer of Matheus Cunha to Wolverhampton. According to Brazilian journalist Vene Casagrande, the Wolves have already activated the option to sign the attacker on a loan that would become permanent if certain clauses that the English club described as “very simple to achieve” were met.

And they were, as the only condition that had to be met was for the Brazilian to play in three games, which he has already done. Cunha’s agreement with his new team will be extended until 2027. Atlético Madrid will earn 50 million euros from the transfer, but it should be noted that not all of the transfer money will go to Atlético Madrid’s coffers, as the player’s original club, Hertha Berlin, retained a portion of the rights to a future sale. Atlético paid around 26 million euros for him, plus bonuses and the German club will retain 10% of the transfer, which amounts to five million euros.

The Original Metropolitano Stadium to be Honored

The Atlético de Madrid is a significant institution in the city of Madrid, with a history dating back over a century. As a result, it is not uncommon to find traces of the club’s presence in various parts of the city. The Los 50 Association, one of the most prominent Atlético fan organizations, has worked to preserve the team’s memory.

In July, the association requested that the Madrid City Council install an ornamental element to commemorate the location of the original Metropolitano Stadium, the team’s former stadium. The request has been successful and at the Moncloa-Aravaca Municipal Board Meeting, the unanimous approval was given to install a commemorative plaque to remember the space that the Metropolitano Stadium occupied in the Ciudad de Viena square.

The stadium’s centenary will be marked next May and this plaque will serve to remember a space that was an important meeting place for the people of Madrid, not just for football but also for other sports. Additionally, the initiative was supported by Eva Escudero, daughter of Adrián Escudero, and Alfredo Collar, son of Enrique Collar, two legends of Atlético de Madrid who shone on Metropolitano Stadium field.

Amrabat prefers Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid is planning to revamp its team in the upcoming transfer markets, and one player that has caught the attention of the team’s management is Sofyan Amrabat, a 26-year-old Moroccan player who currently plays for Fiorentina. According to market expert journalist Santi Aouna, Amrabat has decided that Atletico Madrid’s sports project and the Spanish league are the most interesting options.

Although other teams such as Liverpool and Tottenham are also interested in signing him, Amrabat has leaned towards Atletico Madrid. Although it is unlikely that the team will be able to sign the player at this moment, it could be an option for the summer as his contract with Fiorentina expires in 2024 and his price would be around 30 million euros. During the last World Cup, Amrabat had spoken highly of Atletico Madrid’s coach Diego Simeone and the team’s playing style.

Joao Felix’s disastrous debut with Chelsea and trouble for Atletico

Portuguese player, Joao Felix, had a debut to forget with his new team Chelsea, as he was expelled 58 minutes into the game against Fulham. The foul on Tete, a Fulham player, resulted in a straight red card and three game suspension. This incident poses a problem for Felix and Atletico, as the loan agreement is only until the end of the season, meaning he will be out for the next few games.

Additionally, with several attack teammates injured, Felix could lose his starting position. The idea was to use these months until summer to make a great impression and convince potential buyers to pay the 130 million euros that Atletico is asking for a transfer. However, despite the expulsion, Felix had a promising debut before the expulsion, he took six shots, created several opportunities for teammates, easily got past opponents, had 76% pass accuracy.

Uruguay seeks to avoid historic punishment for Giménez

The Uruguayan Football Association has submitted its defense to FIFA in the disciplinary proceedings opened after Uruguay’s last match in the World Cup. The proceedings also include accusations against the Federation for homophobic chants and against players Diego Godín, Edinson Cavani and Fernando Muslera.

In the case of José Giménez, the punishment would only affect his performance with the Uruguayan national team but not with Atlético Madrid. However, Giménez’s action of hitting a FIFA official with his forearm on the back of the neck could result in a punishment of 15 games suspension.

But there is a key detail that could mitigate the punishment, the official was not on duty during the match between Uruguay and Ghana, but was watching the match in the press box. The Uruguayan Federation does not justify Giménez’s action but puts it in context that in the previous match of Uruguay, against Portugal, Giménez was punished with a penalty in injury time that was recognized as wrongly punished.

Atlético Madrid plans to sell Felipe Augusto Monteiro in the winter transfer window

According to Reuters, interest in the Brazilian central defender, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has been rekindled in recent hours.

The Premier League seems to be the most likely destination for the player, with Wolverhampton leading the race. Personal terms have reportedly been agreed between the player and the English team, leaving the transfer to depend on an agreement between Atlético and Wolverhampton. However, Everton is also said to be interested. If Felipe does leave, Atlético may accelerate the signing of Leicester City’s Caglar Soyuncu, which was initially planned for the summer. However, they also have players like Witsel or Reinildo who have been used in the central position.

Joao Felix Debuts with Red Card in Chelsea

Joao Felix’s debut with Chelsea was forgettable, the player loaned from Atletico Madrid was playing well, leading his team and creating dangerous chances, but he took out Tete and received a red card, ending his debut.

The cost of Felix’s loan has generated controversy, Ally McCoist, a former Rangers player and now a leading commentator on English television, said in a statement to talkSPORT “I can’t believe they’re going to pay almost 11 million euros for a loan.

It’s absolute madness” but he didn’t realize that 11 million is the loan fee but also, Chelsea has to pay the proportionate part of the player salary, raising the matter to 18 million euros. However, for another great connoisseur of English and Spanish football, it is a great signing. “I think he had a good World Cup for him,” said Gaizka Mendieta. “It’s good news for Atletico Madrid and the player so he can return to the club with confidence,” he explained to ITV Sport, the former Spanish international.

The option of Argentine player Rodrigo de Paul is losing strength as he has not played minutes since returning from the World Cup. On the other hand, the return of Giménez to group training is noteworthy, as he would likely enter the starting lineup directly. Atlético Madrid aims to regain 70s form against Almeria

Atlético Madrid is looking to regain the form they displayed for 70 minutes against Barcelona in a match where the Catalan side won 1-0 after dominating the initial stages. The objective is to return to the Champions League spots from which they fell in the last Liga match.

However, Almeria is one of the best home teams in the league, with five wins and only three losses to Real Madrid, Osasuna and Real Sociedad. Coach Diego Pablo Simeone will have to innovate in defense as he lost Joao Félix, Cunha, Savic, Carrasco, and Giménez, all starters against Barcelona.

The other option would be the academy player Marco Moreno who has overtaken Felipe in the coach’s preferences. In midfield, there is only one doubt, who will accompany Kondogbia in the double pivot. Up front, Griezmann and Correa will be the forwards.

Although Simeone could surprise by including Morata, although after some personal problems he has almost not trained as a starter. Finally, the position that is clear is the goalkeeper, where Oblak will continue to defend the mattress goal. The match will be a great opportunity for Atlético Madrid to prove its worth and regain its 70s form.

Almeria and Atletico Madrid line ups

Atletico Madrid will face Almeria in a crucial match for both teams. Atletico Madrid will not be able to count on several key players, such as Carrasco and Gimenez who are injured, Savic who is suspended, and Joao Felix, who has already debuted with Chelsea.

In their place, Nahuel Molina is expected to be the right-back, while Witsel and Hermoso will cover the center of the defense. On the left, Reinildo has more options, but Reguilon has also been tested. In the midfield, Marcos Llorente and Lemar also have their place.

Kondogbia will be the anchor man, but it has not been decided yet who will accompany him. In attack, Griezmann and Correa will form the duo, while Morata and Carlos Martin will stay on the bench. Almeria, on the other hand, wants to regain sensations at home after losing last week to Real Sociedad.

Rubi will bet on a similar lineup, with Fernando in goal, Ely, Babic and Akieme in defense, De la Hoz and Robertone in the double pivot, and Baptistao, Ramazani and El Bilal Toure in attack. It is still uncertain if Luis Suarez, who just arrived to the team, will find his place in the attack.

Enes Unal leads comparison of possible Atletico signings

Atletico Madrid is still searching for a replacement for Joao Felix and Cunha in this winter transfer window. Currently, negotiations with Memphis Depay are well advanced, but other names such as Borja Iglesias and Enes Unal have also been mentioned.

A report by I Am Sports compares the numbers of these three forwards. According to the report, Enes Unal is the youngest of the three and stands out for his great aerial prowess, creating more opportunities and distributing a greater number of key passes than Borja Iglesias and Depay.

Furthermore, he recovers possession and wins more defensive duels than the other two forwards. Enes Unal also stands out in successful dribbles, making him a more complete player.

In combination play, he also surpasses the other two and in defensive aspect, once again it is the Turkish player who has the best numbers of the three. These numbers are noteworthy and could be decisive in Atletico Madrid’s choice for their next signing.

Griezmann becomes the main threat of Atletico in the Cup Derby

French player Antoine Griezmann is the form player of Atletico Madrid and will be the protagonist of the match on Thursday at Santiago Bernabéu in the Cup Derby against Real Madrid. Griezmann has moved back his position to generate surprise in the attack and is the main weapon of Cholo Simeone to assault the white temple in the quarterfinals.

Despite playing two seasons for Barcelona, Griezmann is still the player who has scored the last three goals for Atletico in Concha Espina, two of which resulted in a tie and another in a win. If “The Prince” scores, it is unlikely that Simeone’s team will lose. At Bernabéu, Griezmann has a bad memory of last season, when he was injured after a brutal tackle by Carvajal.

Gattuso Leaves Valencia Over Saúl

On Monday, Gennaro Gattuso stepped down as Valencia’s manager after feeling neglected by the board. The main reason was the arrival of Saúl Ñíguez, an Atlético de Madrid midfielder, whom Valencia wanted to sign.

Doherty joins Atletico as right-back

Matt Doherty, a 31-year-old player from Tottenham, has been chosen by Atletico Madrid to strengthen their right-back position. Felipe’s departure and Pedro Porro’s arrival at Tottenham have left Doherty without space in the Spurs, which, combined with the good relations between Spaniards and Britons, makes this operation possible.

It would be a loan until June 30 without a purchase option. Doherty is represented by Jorge Mendes and arrived in the Premier League in 2010. This season he has played 16 games with the Spurs, scoring one goal. Although his natural position is right-back, he can also play further forward or even as a left-wingback. Diego Simeone asked for the arrival of a right-back, a position in which the team has had trouble finding a backup.
