Atleti Scores a Goal Against Epilepsy
The Atlético de Madrid Foundation, along with Carla Pereyra, have joined the Spanish Epilepsy Federation (FEDE), the Spanish Epilepsy Society (SEEP), and UCB Pharma in the initiative ‘Plays to Score a #GoalAgainstEpilepsy.’ This campaign aims to raise awareness about epilepsy and combat the social stigmas faced by children with this condition.
In Spain, around 400,000 people suffer from epilepsy, with a significant impact on the child population, affecting about 40,000 under the age of 14. The initiative, launched on National Epilepsy Day, uses football as a platform to highlight the importance of awareness and scientific research.
Carla Pereyra, ambassador of the Atlético de Madrid Foundation, emphasizes the need for a team approach to overcome the challenges posed by epilepsy, emphasizing that ‘it is not a game of one, it is a game of all’.
Elvira Vacas, president of FEDE, underlines the importance of collaboration between institutions, companies, and civil society to improve the lives of people with epilepsy. For his part, Dr.
José Serratosa, president of the SEEP, highlights the importance of teamwork, clinical research, and specialized epilepsy units to offer personalized care. Pablo Talavera, Medical Director of UCB Iberia, reaffirms the company’s commitment to research solutions to improve the quality of life for patients and their families, demonstrating that Atleti is committed to causes that go beyond the pitch.
