Simeone's Atlético Madrid: a record of thrashings
Atlético Madrid has scored six or more goals nine times under Diego Simeone’s management. The first team to suffer one of these thrashings was Deportivo in December 2012, when Falcao scored five goals in the Calderón after Costa opened the scoring.
Since then, Atlético has achieved eight more thrashings, with a balance of 57 goals for and three against. The most emphatic victory was a 7-0 against Getafe in the 13-14 season, which brought the Liga trophy to the club’s trophy cabinet.
In the last season, Atlético repeated the thrashing in Vallecas, setting a milestone in the 121-year history of the club: a 0-7 that would go down in history as the biggest away league win.
Two other thrashings also went straight to the record books: the 6-0 against Celtic in the Champions League and the 0-6 against Sparta Prague in the Europa League. Atlético has also thrashed Granada (7-1) and Sevilla (6-1) in the Liga. Curiously, Ángel Correa is the top scorer of these thrashings, with six goals in five games.
