25 years have passed since that fateful May 7, 2000, a date etched in the memory of every Atlético fan. That day, in Oviedo, relegation to the Second Division was confirmed, a huge blow for a team that had been assembled to fight for La Liga.
Despite having a dream squad, with names like Molina, Ayala, Capdevila, Solari, Valerón, and Hasselbaink, the team failed to maintain its place in the top flight. That crucial match against Oviedo ended in an agonizing 2-2 draw, marked by a missed penalty that sealed the club’s fate.
