Correa in Tigres' Sights: Goodbye to a Legend?
Ángel Correa’s future, a legend of Atlético de Madrid with 463 matches, could be away from the Metropolitano. The talented Argentinian, sixth player with the most appearances in the history of the Rojiblancos, is seriously considering a change of scenery, and Tigres from Mexico is emerging as the main suitor.
Mauricio Culebro, sporting director of Tigres, has openly acknowledged the interest: “Correa is an option, among many we have. He is a great player, someone everyone would want to have”. Culebro has expressed Tigres’ ambition to build a historic team: “The idea is to have a team of an era again”.
Regarding Correa, he added: “We are waiting and giving the time for the tournament to finish and then be able to make the final decision”. The Mexican club’s intention is to start negotiations in the coming weeks. Correa’s participation this season has decreased compared to previous years.
Factors such as a sanction and the competition in the team have limited his minutes, placing him in 18th place in terms of playing time. This situation, added to his desire to play in the 2026 World Cup, has led him to consider leaving.
Atlético de Madrid would be willing to facilitate his departure, with Tigres as the strongest option, although River Plate has also shown interest. Correa’s possible departure would mark the end of an era for Atlético, leaving a void in the hearts of the Rojiblancos fans.
