Cerezo Speaks Out: Direct Analysis of the Red and White Season
Enrique Cerezo, president of Atlético de Madrid, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s performance in the final stretch of the season. Moving away from his usual conciliatory tone, the red and white leader did not hesitate to describe the team’s performance as ‘a disaster’.
Cerezo acknowledged that, although bad luck influenced some moments, the low overall level of play was a determining factor. ‘The team is the same as at the beginning, but we have had ups and downs. We did it badly,’ he declared, regretting the lost opportunity to win titles.
The Atlético president highlighted the importance of the match against Betis, where the team achieved a resounding 4-1 victory at the Metropolitano. Le Normand, Correa and Julián Alvarez, the latter with a double that included a great free-kick goal, sealed the victory.
Looking to the future, Cerezo was cautious about possible signings for the Club World Cup, trusting in the quality of the current squad. ‘We have a great squad. The coaches are working together with the coach,’ he said, placing great hopes on this tournament: ‘It is our last hope to be able to win a title. We have all the desire and let’s see if at least we reach the final.’
