Madrid Derby on the Horizon: LaLiga Calendar at Stake
The LaLiga 2025-26 calendar presents significant challenges, especially for our Atleti. The possible participation of Madrid teams in the final stages of the Club World Cup could force the postponement of the first league matchday.
To avoid complications, LaLiga is considering a bold measure: scheduling a Madrid derby on the first date! Thus, if Atleti advances in the World Cup, the match would be rescheduled without affecting other teams.
This idea has the support of the clubs, prioritizing an adequate pre-season after the World Cup. Koke, our captain, has been key in these negotiations, seeking the well-being of the team.
However, the date proposed by LaLiga, August 27, does not quite convince the clubs, who are looking for a solution that allows them to prepare thoroughly for the season. LaLiga could delay the calendar draw to evaluate the options and confirm Atleti’s participation in the Club World Cup, but uncertainty persists.
