Simeone: Reaction after Cup Elimination
Following the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final at the Metropolitano between Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona, the post-match interview with Simeone on TVE was not entirely smooth.
After the defeat, the Rojiblancos coach showed a tense attitude towards the journalist’s questions, which seemed more like a test than a conversation. First, he was asked about Giménez’s statements, which generated a curt response from El Cholo: ‘Ask Jose’.
The question was not well received, as it implied possible internal criticism from a player. When asked what the team was missing in the second half, the response was concise: ‘Being concrete’.
Asked about the last month, where the team fell in the Champions League, Copa del Rey and moved away from the top of LaLiga, Simeone defended: ‘We are having a good season’. Finally, when asked about the remaining goals, he resorted to his already classic philosophy: ‘Match by match’. Despite the initial tension, Simeone was more talkative in the subsequent press conference.
