Harsh Sanction for Correa After Getafe Match
Ángel Correa, a key player in the Rojiblancos’ attack, has been sanctioned with a five-match ban following his expulsion in the match against Getafe. The sanction, imposed by the Disciplinary Committee, is due to both the red card received and the insults directed at referee Cuadra Fernández, which were recorded in the match report.
Although the club expected a harsher sanction, Correa will ultimately be absent for the next five matches. The expulsion occurred in the 88th minute for a challenge on a Getafe player. After seeing the red card, the Argentine player, in a fit of frustration, insulted the referee, as stated in the official report.
Despite Correa’s public apology after the match, the Disciplinary Committee did not consider these apologies as a mitigating factor, although it did impose the minimum sanction contemplated in the regulations.
This absence is a severe blow for Atlético, which loses one of its key players at a crucial moment in the season. Correa will miss important matches, forcing the coach to reconfigure the team’s attack. The Colchoneros’ fans regret the absence of the forward but are confident that the team will overcome this adversity and continue fighting for its goals.
