De Paul: A World Champion with a Valencian Past
Rodrigo de Paul, a world champion and a key figure in midfield, returns to Mestalla. We recall his beginnings at Valencia, a period marked by adversity. He arrived at the club at just 19 years old, excited about Juan Antonio Pizzi’s project, who promised him an important role.
However, his arrival coincided with Pizzi’s dismissal and Nuno’s arrival on the bench. De Paul’s debut was particularly unfortunate. He entered the field and, seconds later, was sent off for a fortuitous action. The four-match suspension imposed on him was a major blow to the young player’s morale.
Despite the initial difficulties, De Paul persevered and contributed to the team. He played for a season and a half at Valencia, playing 34 matches and scoring two goals, before returning on loan to Racing.
