Atlético: World Cup Preparation, Key to Success
The planning of Atlético de Madrid’s preseason after their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup is a crucial issue. The Spanish Footballers Association (AFE) is looking to ensure that the team has adequate rest and an effective preseason to face the demanding 2025-2026 season.
After the end of the Club World Cup, the Rojiblancos players must enjoy at least 21 days of vacation, as stipulated in the collective agreement. However, AFE considers it essential that, in addition to that rest period, the team has a minimum of three weeks of preseason to arrive in optimal condition at the start of LaLiga.
LaLiga’s initial proposal is for Atlético to start the season on the second matchday, but AFE is evaluating whether this is enough to guarantee adequate preparation. The preseason time will vary depending on the stage that Atlético reaches in the Club World Cup.
If the team reaches the final, they would have a preparation time ranging from 19 to 26 days, depending on whether there is a midweek matchday. If they reach the semifinals, the preseason period could be extended to almost a month, which would increase the chances of the team starting LaLiga on the second matchday. AFE seeks the perfect balance between rest and preparation to ensure Atlético’s best performance in the upcoming season.
