Cerezo trusts Atlético for Champions League
Atlético de Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has expressed his confidence in Simeone’s team ahead of their Champions League clash. He emphasized that the club always goes out to win, regardless of the field, and that the main goal is to advance to the quarter-finals and be among the top eight teams in Europe.
Cerezo downplayed Atlético’s historical record against Real Madrid in the Champions League, stating that anything is possible in football and he is confident that the Rojiblancos can take the victory.
Regarding La Liga, Cerezo highlighted the equality between Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid, noting that the competition is very competitive, unlike other seasons in which there would already be a clear favorite at this point.
He admitted that any team can lose games and that we will have to wait until the end to see what happens, but insisted that Atlético is prepared to fight for the title. Finally, Cerezo addressed the issue of refereeing, stating that the referees have lost authority due to VAR.
He stated that, for him, there is no difference between refereeing in national and European competitions. He affirmed that referees must always be respected and that they are the ones who must make the decisions during the match.
