Atletico Madrid Benefits from Champions League
The Champions League is an economic boon for teams, and Atletico Madrid has benefited from it. With a fifth-place finish in the league phase, Simeone’s team has earned €53 million, with €8.8 million alone for its position in the standings.
This adds to the €18.62 million it receives for participating in the competition, and the prizes for wins and draws in the league phase. Atletico is in a good economic position, behind only Liverpool and Barcelona, which have earned €56.22 million and €54.5 million respectively.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, has pocketed €37.27 million, and needs to win the playoff eliminator to access the round of 16 and receive the additional €11 million that UEFA distributes.
UEFA has significantly increased revenue for clubs in this new format, with an increase of €400 million compared to the previous edition. The fixed amount for all clubs just for participating has risen to €18.62 million, and €183.15 million has been allocated to be distributed according to the final position in the standings.
