Atleti Seeks to Regain Momentum
Atlético de Madrid, after being proclaimed winter champion, has encountered obstacles on its way to the League title, although it remains in the fight alongside Real Madrid and Barcelona. Despite the good feelings, Simeone’s team is finding it difficult to add three points at a time since matchday 19.
In the last five matches, Atleti has achieved one victory (2-0 against Mallorca), three draws (Villarreal, Real Madrid and Celta, all 1-1) and one defeat (1-0 against Leganés), adding only six out of fifteen possible points.
The negative streak began with the defeat against Leganés, which put an end to a series of 15 consecutive victories. Later, they drew at home against Villarreal. At the Metropolitano, the team defeated Mallorca with goals from Lino and Griezmann.
The derby against Real Madrid resulted in a valuable draw at the Bernabéu, with one dominant half for each team. More recently, the draw against Celta, marked by the early expulsion of Barrios and a penalty against, demonstrated the team’s grit.
Simeone praised his players as gladiators for their resistance. In between these league matches, Atlético has advanced in the Cup and has qualified for the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Now, the team is preparing to face Valencia, seeking to regain the winning path and consolidate its aspirations in all competitions. After a brief rest, Cholo’s gladiators will return to the ring with the aim of leaving this bump behind and adding three points again.
