Atlético Responds with Humor to Refereeing Debate
Atlético de Madrid has once again used its social media with irony and sarcasm to respond to the debate generated about refereeing in the Madrid derby. In a humorous tone, the club published several basic instructions for the derby, including a point criticizing the use of ‘friendly journalists’ to spread certain messages.
Additionally, Antoine Griezmann came out in defense of referees, pointing out that media pressure and the attitude of clubs and presidents increase the tension on referees. ‘Leave them alone,’ he asked.
On the other hand, Real Madrid sent a letter to the RFEF demanding a structural reform of the Spanish refereeing system, labeling it ‘flawed’ and ‘corrupt,’ and calling for the replacement of referees under suspicion.
