Valverde Anticipates Atlético at Their Peak at the Metropolitano
Ernesto Valverde, Athletic Club’s coach, has expressed his admiration and respect for Atlético de Madrid, stating that he expects to face their best version in the upcoming match at the Metropolitano.
Despite a demanding schedule that includes important commitments in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, Valverde does not believe this will affect the performance of the Colchoneros, highlighting their vast experience in high-level competitions and their excellent current form.
Valverde emphasized Atlético’s ability to react, referring to their recent draw in Barcelona, where they managed to come back from an adverse score. He underlined the depth of the Rojiblancos’ squad, which allows them to maintain a high level of competitiveness in each match.
The Athletic coach also recalled Ángel Correa’s goal in the last minute of the first-leg match, which gave them the victory at San Mamés, emphasizing Atlético’s persistence and determination until the end.
Regarding his own team, Valverde regretted the absence of Oihan Sancet, although he remains hopeful of having him for the crucial Europa League match in Rome. Nico Williams, meanwhile, seems to have recovered from a flu and will be available. Valverde emphasized that to achieve victory at the Metropolitano, it will be crucial for his team to play a perfect match, recognizing Atlético’s potential as a contender for both La Liga and the Champions League.
