The keys to Andrea Berta's farewell from Atlético de Madrid
The arrival of Óscar Mayo and Carlos Bucero at Atlético de Madrid has changed the day-to-day life at the club, and Andrea Berta no longer feels comfortable. Simeone remains untouchable as always. On January 20 of this year, MARCA advanced two important signings for Atlético.
They were not for the green, but to reinforce the structure of the offices. Among them, the arrival of Carlos Bucero as general manager of football, a position that encompasses the entire sports department, including the figure of Andrea Berta.
The Italian arrived at the club in 2013, but it was in 2017 when he took over the rojiblanco operations. However, something changed from the aforementioned January 20 of this year. Even before Bucero arrived, negotiations were held with Mateu Alemany, but no agreement was reached.
Berta already showed his discomfort with the creation of a position between his work and Gil Marín. All this, for a director like Berta, with a high salary after many years of having power and offers from top European clubs.
Hence, the change in the role organization bothered Andrea to the point of not wanting to continue for some time in the entity. With a valid contract, negotiations would be held to end the situation as soon as possible, which is not comfortable for either party.
Andrea Berta does not want to ‘be there’ in Atlético and considers that the best solution is to negotiate an exit, a settlement, and continue his career in another club. While the situation is resolved, Berta continues in the day-to-day life of the team.
Berta’s departure does not change the pace in terms of the bench. No one doubts Simeone’s continuity (with a contract until 2027) and the coach feels strong to continue with a project in which he believes.
