The goal, scored after 27 seconds, not only unleashed euphoria among the fans but also set a new record: the fastest goal in Atleti’s history in the Champions League! But Gallagher’s feat didn’t stop there.
The English midfielder became the first player of his nationality to pierce the net of the eternal rival in a Madrid derby. An achievement that adds prestige to his already outstanding performance in the rojiblanco team.
Moreover, his goal was the earliest Real Madrid has conceded in the Champions League since 2007. Gallagher now joins a select list of Atleti players who have managed to score against Real Madrid in the top European competition, adding to names like Julián Álvarez, Saúl, Griezmann, and other historic Colchoneros.
