Atletico Madrid loses ground in the race for Jonathan David
Atletico Madrid is looking to strengthen its attack for next season and one of the names that most appeals to the Metropolitan is that of Jonathan David, a 24-year-old Canadian striker who plays for LOSC Lille in France.
However, the fact that his contract ends at the end of the season has caused the bidding for the player to skyrocket. David had a great season last year in Ligue 1, scoring 19 goals and providing four assists in 34 games.
It was then that Atletico Madrid spoke with the player’s entourage, but the 50 million euros that the French team asked for ended any chance of trying to sign him. Now, Atletico has lost ground in this fight.
The offer to renew the contract from Lille has been rejected and reports from Sky Sports indicate that Bayern Munich is now the favorite to sign the 24-year-old striker in a pre-contract agreement. According to reports, Bayern Munich’s general manager, Max Eberl, is determined to close the deal, while Atletico Madrid would have a hard time trying to match the conditions offered by the Bavarian team. Real Madrid and FC Barcelona also have him on their radar.
