Atlético prepares for Champions League after analyzing draw against Villarreal
Atlético de Madrid returned to training on Sunday, January 26, following a draw against Villarreal at the Metropolitano. The team coached by Diego Pablo Simeone is currently in second place in the league, four points behind the leader, Real Madrid.
The mattress makers began preparing for their match against RB Salzburg in the final round of the Champions League group stage. A win in Austria would secure Atlético a spot among the top eight in the table, allowing them to avoid an elimination round on their way to the final.
The starters from the Villarreal match did not participate in training, while the rest of the team had a more physical and tactical session. The only absence was Javi Galán, who suffered an ankle and peroneal injury in the match against Bayer Leverkusen and is doubtful for the Champions League match.
