Derby on the Horizon: Atleti Sharpens Aim
Atlético de Madrid doesn’t rest. Just hours after finishing the match against Athletic Club at the Metropolitano, the team was already back to work at the Ciudad Deportiva del Cerro del Espino.
All eyes are on the Madrid derby next Tuesday at the Santiago Bernabéu, corresponding to the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. The coaching staff, true to their methodology, divided the team into two groups.
The players who were part of the starting eleven against Athletic performed recovery exercises in the gym, while the rest of the squad took to the field to complete training with ball exercises in reduced spaces.
The morning session, marked by cold and rain, was without Koke and Azpilicueta, who continue to work individually to overcome their respective muscle injuries. Simeone’s team will hold their final training session this Monday before the crucial match.
The concentration is at its peak and the objective is clear: to arrive in the best possible shape for the highly anticipated duel at the Bernabéu. Atleti, with the grit and passion that characterize them, will seek a positive result in this important Champions League match.
