Atleti Women: A Bitter Draw in Riazor
Atlético de Madrid Women failed to break the deadlock in their visit to Riazor against Deportivo Abanca, in a Liga F match. After their hard-fought qualification in the Copa de la Reina against Cacereño, a better performance was expected from Víctor Martín’s team, but the Colchoneras failed to impose their game.
Despite arriving in Galicia with the confidence given by two consecutive victories, Atleti was unable to generate enough danger against a Deportivo that struggles to avoid relegation. Lola Gallardo had to work hard to maintain the goalless draw at halftime, after a good chance from the home team.
In the second half, a header from Sheila and opportunities from Rosa Otermín and Gio timidly encouraged the Rojiblanco attack. The entry of Ajibade was not enough to change the course of the match either.
This draw leaves Atlético de Madrid in fourth place in the table, surpassed by Athletic, who took third place after defeating Real Sociedad in the Basque derby. A result that forces the team to react if they want to secure their presence in the Champions League spots.
