The new Atlético de Madrid Park, a tribute to the Vicente Calderón

The Atlético de Madrid Park is now a reality in the space that was once occupied by the Vicente Calderón. With an area of over 67,000 square meters and a budget of 12 million euros, the park includes a large central meadow in the shape of a Roman circus, surrounded by three rows of trees and an informal athletics track.

The park’s design pays tribute to Atlético de Madrid and the red-and-white stadium, with a slab featuring a drawing of the Vicente Calderón and a vintage ball carved in stone, on the ground, where the old center of the colchonero coliseum was.

The project has prioritized sustainability, using efficient lighting, permeable pavements, regenerated water for irrigation and recycled materials. In addition to the creation of the park, a pedestrian bridge is planned to connect the Carabanchel and Arganzuela districts, completing the transformation of Madrid Río.
