VAR: Key Decisions in Getafe-Atleti
The recent match between Getafe and our Atleti, corresponding to matchday 27 of La Liga EA Sports at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, was fraught with controversial refereeing and crucial VAR decisions. Two plays in particular required the intervention of technology, marking the development of the match.
The first controversial action was a handball by Alderete inside the area. Initially, referee Cuadra Fernández did not consider it punishable, but after a call from the VOR room, he reviewed the play on the monitor at the foot of the field.
After analyzing the replays, including the position of Sorloth, the referee rectified his decision and awarded the penalty to Atleti. The second key review came after a tackle by Correa on Djené.
Cuadra Fernández initially booked the Rojiblanco player with a yellow card, but VAR intervened again, recommending that he review the action. After watching the images, the referee changed his decision and showed Correa a straight red card.
An action that, despite the striker’s bad luck, is considered an expulsion according to experts. In addition, the VAR was right to validate Getafe’s second goal, confirming that Arrambarri was in the correct position.
The decision not to show Diego Rico a second yellow card for a tackle on Gallagher is also considered correct. In short, a tense match with refereeing decisions that, although controversial, seem to have been correct according to sources consulted, favoring justice in the final result. Always supporting Atleti, no matter what!
