Atlético de Madrid has had an excellent Champions League group stage, finishing in fifth place and avoiding the need to play a playoff round. Simeone’s team has earned a place among the best in Europe, surpassing giants like Real Madrid and Barcelona.
While Atlético finished in fifth place, Real Madrid finished in 11th, forcing the Madrid team to play a playoff round to continue in the tournament.
