Madrid mayor pays tribute to Atlético at the inauguration of the Atlético de Madrid Park
The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida, has inaugurated the Atlético de Madrid Park, which is located on the site of the old Vicente Calderón stadium.
During the event, Martínez Almeida, a self-proclaimed Atlético de Madrid fan, thanked the club for its decision to move to the Metropolitano, which made it possible to carry out the construction of the park.
In addition, the mayor sent a message to those who refer to Atlético as ‘Pupas’, highlighting that the club has won much more than it has lost and that its record is one of the greatest in the world. Martínez Almeida also pointed out that the Atlético de Madrid Park is necessary to preserve the memory and identity of the city of Madrid, which is indissolubly linked to the club and its fans.
