Jan Oblak named best player in Slovenia on his 32nd birthday
Jan Oblak, goalkeeper for Atlético Madrid, has been named the best player in Slovenia on his 32nd birthday. The award, given by the most important sports newspaper in Slovenia, ‘Ekipa’, is based on votes from various Slovenian media.
Oblak received 139 votes and was 19 ahead of the second-placed player, Sesko. The Atlético goalkeeper has regained his best form in the second half of 2024, with eight games without conceding a goal and a streak of 13 consecutive wins for Atlético. Oblak was also one of the standout players for Slovenia in the Eurocup in Germany, where he saved a penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo. Only twice since 2015 has Oblak not won this award.
