Simeone seeks his first win in Barcelona
Atlético de Madrid visits Barcelona’s stadium with the aim of taking the three points and leading the table. It will be the last game of the year and Simeone’s team could end it as leaders.
The Cholo faces a great challenge, as in the years he has been in charge of Atlético he has never been able to beat Barcelona in the azulgrana club’s stadium. Simeone has won at the Bernabéu and other great European stadiums, but has not yet achieved a victory in Barcelona.
He has faced the azulgrana team in the League, Cup, Champions and Supercopa. And he has never returned to Madrid with a victory, although on one occasion, in the 2013-14 season, he achieved a 1-1 draw that gave him the league title.
An Atlético victory would be a blow to the table for the rojiblancos’ aspirations for the league title. Simeone arrives at Montjuïc with the worst record of results in azulgrana territory, having suffered three consecutive defeats.
The last time Simeone got something positive against Barcelona as a visitor was in the 2020-21 campaign, where a 0-0 draw was registered. In that season, Atlético was proclaimed league champion. Will the Cholo be able to break the spell he has against Barcelona in azulgrana territory? It is one of the few things he has left to achieve.
