Atlético Madrid on the brink of winter championship
Atlético Madrid is on the verge of becoming winter champions. After Real Madrid’s victory in Mestalla, the mattress team needs to beat Osasuna in the last match of the first round to achieve it. With 41 points, Atlético is second in the table, two points behind Real Madrid and five ahead of Barcelona.
If Simeone’s team beats Osasuna, they could end the first round with one point ahead of Madrid, six over Barça and eight over Athletic Bilbao. If Atlético’s numbers in this first round have been spectacular, with 12 wins, five draws and one defeat, 33 goals for and only 12 against. Atlético is the least scored team in the competition and the fourth most scored.
