Gyokeres in sight: Atlético goes all out
Atlético de Madrid has a clear target to strengthen their attack next season: Viktor Gyokeres. According to the Portuguese newspaper Record, the Rojiblancos lead the race for the Sporting striker.
Gyokeres, who will soon turn 27, has always been an attractive player for Atlético, although his high price had been an obstacle. Now, Sporting is reportedly asking for between 65 and 70 million euros plus bonuses, a considerable figure, but less than the 100 million previously discussed.
With 39 goals in 33 matches in the Portuguese league, Gyokeres’ impressive numbers have kept him on the radar of major European clubs. Although no satisfactory offer arrived last year, this summer could be different.
According to Record, Atlético plans to release some players to free up space and accommodate the attacker. The club’s intention is to build a competitive team around key players to get closer to Barcelona and Real Madrid, a priority for Diego Simeone.
