Diego Simeone and Milinko Pantic, former teammates at Atlético de Madrid, have not had the best relationship in recent years. However, after the match against Sparta Prague in the Champions League, Simeone had a nod to Pantic by comparing Julian Alvarez’s first goal to the way the Serbian struck free kicks. The Cholo highlighted Pantic’s quality in this type of play and his importance in the team that won the double in 1996.
