Saúl's Future: Doors Closed in Elche?
The future of Saúl Ñíguez is one of the Rojiblancos’ unknowns for the upcoming season. After his loan spell at Sevilla, where it seems his contract won’t be extended, the player returns to Atlético with one year left on his deal.
Recently, rumors have surfaced linking him with Elche, the club where he developed and where his father is an idol. The idea was that Atlético would cover part of his salary, as they did with Sevilla.
However, according to sources close to the matter, Saúl faces a complicated situation at Elche due to past conflicts with the board. Apparently, the relationship soured after the departure of his brothers, Aarón and Johnny, from the Elche club after the current owners took over.
Aarón, in particular, had a problematic departure in 2015 after the club’s administrative relegation. These situations led Saúl to publicly criticize Elche’s management, leading to a breakdown in relations.
Even though Elche has achieved promotion to the First Division, this situation hinders his possible arrival at the club. Therefore, Saúl will have to look for other alternatives or try to reconcile with the current Elche board in order to return to the Martínez Valero. Atleti and its fans will be following the resolution of this soap opera.
