Torres: The Red and White Future is Forged on the Bench
Fernando Torres, a legend of Atlético de Madrid, continues to consolidate himself as a key piece in the club’s future, this time from the bench. After a distinguished career as a player, ‘El Niño’ has demonstrated his worth as a coach, leaving his mark on the Red and White academy.
Despite not achieving the play-off goal with Atlético de Madrid B in the Primera RFEF, his work is highly valued by the board of directors.
His successful stint with the Juvenil A, where he conquered two Division of Honor Leagues surpassing Real Madrid on both occasions, and the historic qualification for the Final Four of the Youth League, are proof of his ability.
The board fully trusts his project and will bet on him as coach of the subsidiary team next season. The restructuring of the Academy, with Julio de Marco in command, seeks to give greater independence in sports and administrative management.
Torres’ work at the head of Atlético B will be facilitated by moving training and matches to the Ciudad Deportiva de Alcalá de Henares, and reinforcing the squad with strategic signings.
Torres has been fundamental in the development of young talents such as Iturbe, Javi Boñar, and Adrián Niño, many of whom have already had opportunities with the first team.
