Colchonero Success: Atleti's Academy, a European Model
Atlético de Madrid’s Academy has established itself as a European benchmark in the training of young talents. Recently, it opened its doors to the European Club Association (ECA) and numerous clubs from the continent, breaking attendance records with 90 representatives.
Over two intense days, the Rojiblanco club shared its successful training model, highlighting the importance of the Academy as a fundamental pillar.
The ‘Academy Visit’ program offered a comprehensive overview of the development of young talents, covering sporting aspects, methodologies in both football 11 and football 7, tactical analysis, legal issues, and individualized training programs.
In addition, the successful integration of Atlético de Madrid Femenino within the training structure was highlighted. LaLiga also participated, offering a global perspective of the panorama of youth academies in Spain and its valuable collaboration with clubs.
Santi Denia, the Spanish U-21 coach, shared his vision on the constant growth of the lower categories. Attendees were able to tour the facilities, including the Metropolitano, the Academy Residence, and the Alcalá de Henares Sports Center, where they witnessed training sessions. The club emphasized its educational model, the ‘compliance’ area, and child protection, pillars that support the future of Atleti.
