Olivera, on Atlético's radar to strengthen the defense
Atlético de Madrid, under the leadership of Carlos Bucero and ‘Cholo’ Simeone, is already working on planning for next season, prioritizing strengthening the left-back position. Mathías Olivera, currently at Napoli, has become an attractive option for the rojiblanca board, who have already sounded out his availability.
His excellent season in Italy, being an undisputed starter and about to win his second Scudetto, has positioned him as an interesting player for Atlético. Olivera stands out for his versatility and ability to play in different defensive positions, although he mainly plays as a left-back.
Napoli, although valuing the player and having renewed his contract until 2030, would be willing to listen to offers exceeding 30 million euros. This figure, although high, is more affordable compared to other alternatives that the club was considering.
Atlético’s defense will undergo a major remodeling. Given the possible departures, Simeone seeks guarantees to strengthen a position that has generated problems throughout the season. Names like Javi Galán, Reinildo and Samu Lino have not been enough to cover that area of the field.
Olivera, in addition to being a key player at Napoli, is also a reference in the Uruguayan national team, which demonstrates his reliability and experience at the highest level. Several English clubs have also shown interest in the player, but Atlético de Madrid is confident in its possibilities to convince him to join the rojiblanco project.
