Investigation Reveals Possible Manipulation in Key Atlético Penalty
A new expert report, commissioned by the Atlético supporters group Señales de Humo, reinforces suspicions of manipulation in the UEFA video that justified the annulment of Julián Alvarez’s penalty in the crucial Champions League match against Real Madrid.
This second analysis, carried out by the prestigious company Duque & Wittmaak, comes after a first report that already pointed to anomalies in the audiovisual material presented by the European body.
According to the new report, accessed by MD, the analyzed file lacks essential VAR metadata and does not have a cryptographic signature that guarantees its authenticity. In addition, its technical parameters are inconsistent with VAR standards.
This leads to the conclusion that it cannot be assured that the video is original and a possible editing or manipulation is not ruled out. The analysis goes further, even questioning the existence of the double touch that was the official justification for annulling the penalty.
After an exhaustive frame-by-frame analysis, the report does not observe a reaction in the ball that suggests prior contact with the player’s left foot before the launch with the right foot. In summary, this new report, which will be published in full by Señales de Humo, fuels the controversy and reinforces the conviction of many Atlético de Madrid fans that the referee’s decision was unfair and detrimental to the team.
