Simeone: On the bench for the first match?
The match in Montilivi resulted in a yellow card for Diego Pablo Simeone, his fifth, which implies a suspension. However, a rule in the RFEF Disciplinary Code could allow him to manage Atlético de Madrid in the first match of the 2025-2026 season.
Since 2019, the regulation exempts players who complete a card cycle in the last league match from serving the suspension in the first match of the following season. Article 119.4 of the Disciplinary Code specifies that this rule does not apply if the caution occurs in the last match of the competition.
Although the article does not explicitly mention coaches, sources consulted by this newspaper suggest that the exemption could also be extended to them. If so, Simeone could be on the bench at the Metropolitano at the start of the new season, without having to serve any suspension for accumulation of cards.
