Atlético's Academy, a European Benchmark

Atlético de Madrid’s Academy has established itself as a role model in Europe. Recently, it hosted the European Club Association (ECA) and representatives from numerous European clubs in a key event of the ‘Academy Visit’ program.

Over two intense days, visitors were able to learn firsthand about the vision, strategy and methodology that drive the training of young ‘rojiblancos’ talents. This meeting, which had a record number of attendees, reflects Atlético’s commitment to the exchange of knowledge and the continuous growth of grassroots football.

The most relevant figures of the Academy, led by its director, Emilio Gutiérrez, shared their experience in areas such as sports, analysis, legal framework, methodology of football 11 and football 7, and individualized training.

The successful integration of the Atlético de Madrid Femenino structure into the Academy over the last decade was especially highlighted. LaLiga also participated in the event, offering a global perspective on the panorama of youth academies in Spain and their evolution.

The Spanish U-21 national team coach, Santi Denia, an Atlético legend and former Academy coach, shared his vision on the growth of youth academies. The first day took place at the Metropolitano, where the club’s vision for the future was presented.

The second day included a visit to the Academy Residence and the Alcalá de Henares Sports Center, where attendees witnessed training sessions and learned about the club’s educational model and child protection policy. In short, an event that reaffirms Atlético de Madrid’s role as an innovative club committed to the development of young talent.
