Cardoso to Atlético: Koke, the Conductor
Since Thomas Partey’s departure in 2020, Atlético de Madrid has been searching for a midfielder to establish himself in the team. Several players have tried to fill that void, but none have managed to displace Koke.
Now, it seems the club has found a promising solution with the arrival of Johnny Cardoso, a footballer who could become the team’s engine and complement creative players like De Paul or Pablo Barrios. A key aspect of Cardoso’s adaptation will be Koke’s role.
The Rojiblanco captain will be the new signing’s host, guiding him to understand Simeone’s playing philosophy. Although Koke’s continuity is not confirmed, everything suggests he will continue for another season, playing a fundamental role both on and off the field.
In addition to being a mentor, Koke will have the task of generating competition in his position. Ambitious and competitive, the captain will seek to demand his best level, ready to return to the starting lineup when necessary, as he has shown this season, culminating in four consecutive starts. Koke’s experience and leadership will be vital to integrate Cardoso and strengthen Atlético’s midfield.
