Atlético de Madrid coach Diego Simeone could be sanctioned with one match following his expulsion in the second round Copa del Rey match against C.P. Cacereño.
Referee Díaz de Mera showed him a direct red card for kicking a water bottle towards the area where the fourth official and assistant referee number one were located, passing just a few centimeters away from both and without hitting any of the arbitration components. The sanction would be applied in the same competition, so it would not affect Atlético’s next match against Sevilla, but would be served in the next round of the Copa del Rey scheduled for January 3, 4 or 5.
