50 years since Luis Aragonés debut as coach of Atlético de Madrid
50 years ago, on December 1, 1974, Luis Aragonés made his debut as coach of Atlético de Madrid in a match against Valencia at the Luis Casanova, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Aragonés, who had been a player for the team, was called to take charge of the team just two days after playing his last game as a player.
Despite the difficult task of going from teammate to boss of the locker room, Aragonés accepted the challenge and became one of the most successful coaches in the history of Spanish football. During his career, he won a Intercontinental Cup, a League, three Cups, a Spanish Super Cup and a promotion to First Division with Atlético de Madrid. His legacy is still remembered by the team’s fans and Spanish football in general.
