Maxi Rodríguez returns to Atlético de Madrid

Maxi Rodríguez, former Atlético de Madrid player, has returned to the Spanish capital after almost three years of retirement at Newell’s. The 43-year-old Argentine has been visiting the team’s training in Majadahonda and also passed by the Metropolitano.

Although he did not play in that stadium, Maxi was able to see the new home of the red and white team and stop at the Paseo de los Centenarios, where there is a plaque with his name thanks to the 158 official matches he played with Atlético in the five seasons he had the Vicente Calderón as his home.

‘How nice to return to a place that was my home for 5 years, Atleti, where the fans showed me a lot of affection,’ wrote the Argentine on social media. Maxi arrived at the red and white club in the summer of 2005 from Espanyol for five million euros and stayed until January 2010, when the mattress club gave him the green light to sign for Liverpool. International with Argentina on 57 occasions (16 goals), Maxi left a great memory in Atlético de Madrid, where he even became captain of the team.
