Courtois Acknowledges Cholo's Magic
Former Atlético de Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, has praised Diego Pablo Simeone, recognizing his impact on his professional career. In a recent interview, Courtois fondly recalled his time under Cholo’s command, highlighting his ability to motivate and bring out the best in each player.
‘He brings a special character,’ Courtois commented, reminiscing about the motivational talks of the Argentine coach and his second coach, Mono Burgos, which injected confidence into the team before important matches.
‘He would tell you that you were the best,’ he added, emphasizing how Simeone managed to make the players believe in themselves and perform at their highest level. The Belgian goalkeeper also highlighted Simeone’s tactical ability and constant reinvention.
‘He always finds a way to reinvent himself,’ he stated, recognizing Cholo’s longevity and continued success at the helm of Atlético. Courtois even expressed his desire to see Simeone manage in another country, although he recognizes his happiness at the Colchoneros club.
Courtois also revealed that he was close to signing for Manchester United, but the arrival of De Gea led him to take another path. ‘That signing was what made me the goalkeeper I am today,’ he concluded, grateful for the opportunity he was presented with to join Atlético de Madrid.
